Most drivers are aware that a portion of their safety may rest in the hands of others nearby. Should a nearby driver’s behavior create a dangerous situation, the fallout of that instant could forever alter the lives of everyone involved, or of surviving family members who suffer an untimely loss in the process. Reports indicate that speeding and failure to yield are suspected as contributing factors in a recent car accident that claimed the lives of several individuals in California.

Fatal car accident

Law enforcement agents say they responded to reports of a multiple-vehicle crash at around 1:30 p.m. on a recent Thursday. According to reports, the incident began when the driver of a car failed to stop for a red traffic light while driving at a high rate of speed. This reportedly prompted a chain reaction crash involving up to six vehicles altogether, and authorities state that several of these vehicles proceeded to erupt into flames in the process.

Reports indicate that up to six individuals died at the scene of the crash, one of whom was on the way to a medical facility for a pregnancy checkup. An investigation into the crash reportedly remains underway and authorities say that speeding and failure to yield appear to have been contributing factors. The driver who caused the crash has been arrested and authorities say she may face numerous charges pending completion of the investigation.

Outcome of an accident

It could be difficult to predict how the outcome of a car accident might affect the lives of those involved until the unthinkable occurs. Those who suffer life-altering harm or unexpected loss due to the negligent actions of another driver may wish to exercise their rights to seek accountability through the civil justice system, but they might need guidance in preparing for the process. Fortunately, there are attorneys in California who can evaluate the situation a person is facing and assist in preparing to seek the restitution deserved through a claim against the party deemed responsible.
