It is not news to any local that our roads are some of the most congested and dangerous in the country and, perhaps, the world. In fact, it often joked about by comedians and late night talk show hosts. Unfortunately, this congestion and danger was exemplified in a road rage homicide recently in Rancho Dominguez.
The incident
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at the 19000 block of South Laurel Park Road shortly before 5:40 a.m. LACSD’s Carson station responded and found an injured elderly man on the ground outside their vehicle.
After an investigation, it was determined that the victim was involved in a car accident. Both exited their vehicles and an argument ensued, which quickly turned physical. The perpetrator then assaulted the elderly man, and then ran him over several times. He then fled the scene on foot when his vehicle became inoperable. The elderly man died at the scene.
LACSD found the man and arrested him for murder. Witnesses confirmed that the detained man was the attacker. However, anyone who witnessed the incident are encouraged to contact LACSD immediately.
What can we learn?
We all know that Los Angeles, California, can be dangerous. When one is in an accident, do not exit the vehicle to engage the other driver, regardless of how negligent their actions appear. This is dangerous and can lead to death. Call the police immediately, even for minor accidents because incidents can escalate quickly.
For the victim’s family here, and for the victims of any car accident, state law protects them. We can hold those responsible accountable, but the first step is contacting an attorney immediately.
